The truth is that all men having power should be distrusted. - James Madison
In interviews, they gave an almost uniform diagnosis of the country's problems: The Obama administration and congressional Democrats are spending too much money on programs that insert government too far into people's lives. And Washington, they say, ignores or vilifies those who object.
"This is not about being anti-Obama, even though I personally dislike his policies," said Constance Campbell, 58, a retired state administrator who organized the Tallahassee bus. "It's about a feeling of powerlessness in We the People."
Van Jones spent the 1990s as an avowed Communist. He is an unabashed political hater. He traffics in poisonous "truther" conspiracy theories about 9/11 as an inside job. And, yet, he is a mainstream figure within environmentalism. The real Jones scandal is less his wince-inducingly sophomoric radicalism than how comfortably he fits within the broader world of contemporary liberalism.Exactly.
The president pushes back against health care misinformation, then spreads a bunch of his own. Again and again last night, the president's numbers didn't add up. "There may be those—particularly the young and healthy—who still want to take the risk and go without coverage," he warned, in a passage defending compulsory insurance. "The problem is, such irresponsible behavior costs all the rest of us money. If there are affordable options and people still don't sign up for health insurance, it means we pay for those people's expensive emergency room visits." No, it means that, on balance, the healthy young don't pay for the unhealthy old. The whole point of forcing vigorous youth to buy insurance is using their cash and good actuarials to bring down the costs of covering the less fortunate.
There is nothing in HR3200 that excludes illegal aliens from the various coverage provisions (with a few limited exceptions). The Congressional Research Service agrees with this assessment (full report embedded below). For example, with regard to health care exchanges, the CRS found:H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens—whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently—participating in the Exchange.Since the Obama administration wanted a full House vote passing HR3200 prior to the August recess, Obama was okay with a bill that included illegal aliens.
